Packing Case Compressors — Next-Gen Sealing Technology from Kingsly
Innovation in Motion
In today’s industrial world, precision, durability and emissions control aren’t nice to have — they’re necessary. That’s why Kingsly Compression is proud to introduce our latest innovation: the new Packing Case Compressor. With advanced design and manufacturing techniques, this new sealing solution outperforms traditional systems in both reliability and environmental compliance.
Our new packing case is engineered to be reliable and environmentally compliant. It’s not just an upgrade — it’s a re-engineering of reciprocating compressor sealing. Whether you’re managing high pressure gas or retrofitting legacy systems, Kingsly has the technology advantage your operation needs.
How Packing Cases Work in Reciprocating Compressors
A packing case is a critical component of any reciprocating compressor. Located where the piston rod exits the crankcase and enters the compression cylinder, it keeps pressurized gas contained within the system and prevents oil from entering the gas stream. It also protects the cylinders from environmental contaminants and debris.
Packing cases are engineered to operate efficiently by preventing gas leaks and contaminants, so reciprocating compressors can run reliably and effectively.
Components
- Packing Rings: Seal around the piston rod to prevent gas leakage.
- Wiper Rings: Clean oil from the piston rod to protect gas purity. Wiper cases are key to protecting cylinders from contaminants, so they can operate efficiently and meet environmental requirements.
- Vented Chambers: Capture or redirect minimal leakage for safe disposal or monitoring.
- Lubrication System: Optional depending on gas type and system requirements.
By keeping a secure seal under high dynamic pressure, the corrosion resistant packing cases impact system performance, protect cylinders from environmental contaminants and extend compressor life.

Features of Kingsly Compression Packing Cases
Every component in Kingsly’s packing case assembly is selected and machined with the right case material for long term reliability and field ready serviceability.
Reliable packing cases are key to maximizing compressor performance, minimizing downtime and stable operation.
Lubricated and Non-Lubricated
Our solutions are configurable for dry gas, wet gas or oil free service environments.
Cooling is critical to efficient operation as it manages heat through increased cooling flow rates and prevents scale buildup that can impede coolant flow and overall efficiency.
API 618 Compliance
Designed to meet or exceed API 618 compressor standards for severe duty and process critical applications, considering various service conditions such as pressure and type of gas involved.
Coolant flow is critical to maintain heat transfer and prevent scale buildup which can affect packing case life and performance.
Modular Stack Configuration
Allows for custom ring arrangements and in-field replacement or service, reducing maintenance windows. Precision ground sealing surfaces ensure consistent sealing, contributing to overall product functionality and life.
Annular cups contain recesses for packing rings to ensure sealing and emissions compliance in various pressure conditions.
Material Selection
Rings are made from high performance polymers, cast iron and metallic alloys to withstand corrosive and abrasive gas environments.
Bronze alloy steel is used in compressor packing cases to reduce wear and corrosion.
Tandem and Vented
Double packing with intermediate vent provides added control in systems where zero leakage or leak monitoring is required, reduces fugitive emissions.
Cooled packings enhance compressor system performance and reliability by dissipating heat generated during operation. This means less replacements and longer life, ultimately reduces unplanned downtime and operational costs.
These features give operators the performance they need — whether new build or retrofit.
